Ibuprofen And Mouth Sores in Questions
Canker sores in mouth after upper molar extraction, ibuprofen is not helping pain. Help!? I had my upper right side six-year molar removed a week ago. I'm sure I don't have a dry socket as the extraction area is only a little tender. My jaw is still sore, as it took quite awhile to loosen the tooth. I have rinsed my mouth with salt water twice a day for five days now, and have been on antibiotics for ten days (just finished the pre ion). Over the last three days I have developed three very painful canker sores on the bottom right side. They are painful enough that ibuprofen doesn't help much, and I am having trouble sleeping. I also have a couple spots on my bottom right gums now that look like the gums have pulled back from the teeth since the extraction. I haven't been able to contact my dentist, as it has been the weekend. Any suggestions?

Erik B replied: "Anbesol? Clove oil? Good luck."

saralee30 replied: "They have products at the store that you can buy for canker sores, or you can try ambesol, or orajel those would numb it for a bit."

pg replied: "continue with the rinses but just make the water lukewarm... you should start with once a day multi-vitamin course as a long antibiotic course might have led to loss of vitamin synthesizing bacteria of your intestine!! And ya.. that lower teeth problem sounds like an independent process to me, irrespective of the upper teeth prob!! get a local topical anesthetic for the sores."

my baby has cold sores in his mouth? i've given him ibuprofen and put a lot of oral gel for babies... are there any other suggestions? I've already taken him to the doctors. The Dr. said it was herpes in the mouth and to give him ibuprofen.. i was wondering if there's more i could do for my poor baby cause he's in so much pain

wondermom replied: "He needs to go to the doctor. He may have foot and mouth disease and it makes them VERY sick!"

Bonnebelle replied: "Have you taken him to the doctor. If not, take him immediately to the doctor."

artistagent116 replied: "Take him to the doctor."

Pitusi replied: "Take him to the doctor."

Aurora replied: "Teething powders also help. Just rub some on with your finger. Shame, I hate them, it must be really unpleasent for him. Hope he and you feel better soon."

Sandra S replied: "yes...this needs to be seen by the doctor. call right away."

katmandu1285 replied: "He may have thrush, which is a yeast infection in the mouth. A lot of babies get it because their immune system isn't fully developed to fight it off...it happens a lot in the elderly too. A lot of times, parents don't think about 'brushing their teeth' because they have no teeth, so the yeast from their formula takes over their mouth and this causes thrush, which can also cause a sore throat. You can get baby toothbrushes or mouth swabs at the drugstore and I would suggest you swab his mouth at least once a day...before bedtime, although it would also be helpful to do so in the morning...You should make an appointment with your doctor to make sure nothing serious is happening"

aleesonaroll replied: "Sounds like thrush. Call the pharmacy and ask if there are any solutions to help with a baby's thrush. Your doctor should have an infant help line, so call and ask if you should bring the baby in. This is a pretty common thing with newborn's. One this that can help is to stop warming the baby's formula. Try to serve it at room temp. Also, how old is your baby? If she/he is under 3 months they shouldn't be drinking any water. Water for small babies will throw off their Ph Balance and that can cause a candida overgrowth (thrush is yeast)."

pixie replied: "First of all, I am NOT A DR this is just my opinion as a well informed coldsore sufferer! What you are seeing could be a number of different things. How do you know that he has coldsores? you say that they are IN his mouth, coldsores do not usually form inside the mouth but on or around the lips, also the eyes and nose (on or near a mucus membrane). It is very rare for a baby to get cold sores. The only way this could have happened is by coming into contact with the herpes simplex virus (coldsore). Has anyone who suffers with cold sores kissed your baby? whether a coldsore is visible or not, a sufferer can pass the virus through contact. If the answer is yes, then it may be possible that the lesions you are seeing are due to the coldsore virus. Take your son to the dr and seek advice there. If you can't see a dr right away visit the pharmasist. They will be able to advise you the best they can. There is a topical cream that can be used on the coldsore, usually zovirax, that can be applied to the lips which can work and help the healing process. I am not sure if this would be good for a baby though so please see the pharmasist or dr. If your baby does have a cold sore, oral gel will not do anything to ease his discomfort!!! With you saying that the coldsores are IN his mouth and that you are using oral gel, I do not think that this is a coldsore. I think he could be dealing with ORAL THRUSH. Is he breast fed? or is he teething? Take a look in his mouth, does his tongue look 'different', is it white and furry looking, does it have red spots or yellow spots? the feeling a person can get with oral thrush is burning and pain. any of these could be an indication of oral thrush. Also, what are the corners of his mouth like? are they dry or cracked? this is one of the main indications or oral thrush. Coldsores are blister looking lesions, sometimes puss filled or just look like they are filled with fluid. By comparing the two, does what your son have indicate either one? If his mouth indicates oral thrush, again, take a trip to the dr and pharmacy. The pharmacist can give an over the counter med called daktarin. This is an orange flavoured oral gel, It doesnt taste too bad. All you do is apply this on the affected area a couple of times a day and hopefully it should kill the fungal bacteria which causes the oral thrush. The dr can prescribe the med 'nystatin' - a oral thrush treatment BUT the daktarin is good to use if an appointment with the dr isn't available right away. If you do breast feed and your baby has either coldsores or oral thrush you will also get the infection on your breasts. I hope that this is helpful to you and that your little babe doesnt feel too uncomfortable for too long. If you can please let me know how he is doing? and what it is that is bothering him... I wish you both all the best."

Mouth overrun with canker sores, what is the problem? For almost two weeks I have had canker sores in mouth, about 12 of them are on my throat around my tonsils, but not on them. I have more on my cheeks and a large one on my lower lip. I have been gargling with hydrogen peroxide, brushing 3 times a day, and taking loads of ibuprofen, as well as vitamins. Each day more and more appear on my throat. I have no other symptoms at all, I feel perfectly fine except for this. Could there be something wrong with my immune system or tonsils? (I have had holes in my tonsils since I was a child).

Andal replied: "I do not know if your immune system or tonsils is the cause for your sores.. but i could give you general tips on how to get rid of and prevent them-- Drink a cup of coconut milk about twice a day.. they help reduce canker sores a great deal. Tender coconut water is also a great remedy- drink in an empty stomach. Honey is also a good remedy.. high usage of chemical drugs could be one more reason- lots of heat is generated in the body when you have tablets/capsules- and body heat is one reason for canker sores. find an alternative medication like organic remedies if you can. try rinsing/gargling with salt water 3-4 times a day--usually helps. Applying raw onion is said to reduce the sores (I don't know how far it works, but have heard it's a good remedy) I am guessing that you follow all the dietary restrictions- if not, please do. Last, if your sores last for MORE than 2 or 2.5 weeks, go to a doc.. nothing like a professional cure :)"

cowboydoc replied: "Your doing the right thing but, I think it's beyond a home treatment. I don't want to scare you but, You'd better see your doc and tell him what's going on here, You have a serious problem. I usually don't answer these problems because no one wants to really know they have a problem but, you do."

how long does ibuprofen take to take effect? hi [: well this is my third day with spacers D: and my mouth has been pretty sore . how long does ibuprofen take to take effect? thanks! -andrea<3

ASB replied: "depends upon person to person. Normally it takes 30 to 45 min to show its effect. and it last for 6 to 7 hours"

Yasmine replied: "About 20minutes with me. I love ibuprofen lol. It works great for a toothache."

Vikki Dreams replied: "Usually around 30 minutes. If you are not getting relief from the pain I would ask your dentist. You may need something else."

I've had a bad headache for the past 25 hours. Ibuprofen does nothing. What's wrong with me? I don't think it's a migraine. I'd worse than normal, but it's not that bad. I've had sinus problems all my life, and they are currently draining and giving me trouble, but I've never experienced an extended headache like this before. I don't know if it's related, but I'm also developing a couple small sores in my mouth and I woke up with this weird translucent gunk all over my teeth this morning. I'm starting to get worried.

the_dark_princess replied: "please go get an mri! my brother died at 21 because of a condition we didnt know about, he was born with an avm that caused a cerebral hemmorhage. he could have been helped if he had an mri and they found it. frequent headaches can be a sign, and like what he did the night he died was take lots of asprin and it didnt go away. his headache was really bad. save ur family some grief and go to urgent care now"

My gums, the roof of my mouth,& my gland are all swollen & sore on one side making it hard to swallow, help!? Also have some kind of cold/flu bug.Been taking ibuprofen for the swelling & Percocet for the pain to sleep at night.

MadforMAC replied: "I think you should see a doctor right now, swelling in the mouth can be dangerous if it eventually interferes with breathing."

indiansbearsandangels replied: "I would go see the doctor, sounds like just swollen glands with a cold, but just to be sure, get a throat culture."

roy070267 replied: "my guess is tonsillitis.get some antibiotics from your doctor"

song Bird replied: "hi, thinking about your problem sonds like you need to go to a dentist one bad tooth can cause all of that the other that comes to mind there is a strain of virus called staff infection have heard of complaints from different friends that has had something that sounds like your problem please go to the doctor asap get checked out go to the nearest hospital to the emergency room if it is staph it is nothing to ignore"

Horserider75 replied: "You can go to a health food store and get some Colloidal Silver to kill the infection, it'll kill the flu bug too. Rinse your mouth out with some peroxide or the Colloidal Silver. You can also heat a cup of water, add a good amount of salt and rinse and gargle with it. Soak your toothbrush in the Colloidal Silver or peroxide to kill the germs or you'll keep reinfecting yourself."

My mouth is so sore after fillings. Is this normal? I had five fillings done about 7 hours ago on all my molars. However, the left side of my mouth took much longer and they had to give me multiple numbing shots. The dentist also commented that I might need a root canal on the upper left tooth in the near future. Now the numbing solution has worn off and the left side of my mouth is painfully sore. The specific teeth and my entire gum line & jaw are throbbing. I've taken 800mg of ibuprofen, swished with salt water & used ice and the pain has not minimized. Is this normal? How long should I expect to be in pain?

firewater_tears replied: "I've had many fillings done, and quite a few of those continued to hurt for quite some time. One of my molars took longer than normal (count them, five shots just to numb it), and it hurt for a few days... and for about 1 year afterward, I had an extreme sensitivity to heat and cold. It still hurts on occasion and it's been 7 years."

PICKLE replied: "Yea it's normal don't worry by the time you know it the pain will be gone."

Please tell me, am I coming down with the Flu? I am begging for a diagnosis. Right now, I have to study for 2 exams and a quiz that are coming up very soon on Monday and I need all the strength I need! Ok these are my symptoms as I woke up: -dry mouth, sore throat (not too sore) -soreness at the back of nasal passage w/ accumulation of mucus -congestion that causes me to breathe out of my mouth -sinus pressure @ back of eyes -Bodily fatigue (All my bones feel weak and kind of hurts to stand) So here are my symptoms and I hope I can get an educated answer from anybody that has knowledge on what I'm coming down with. What would be your remedy to treat this? The college medical clinic sucks and they don't have appointments available until tomorrow :( These are the drugs I have: -Loratadine 10mg -Psuedoephedrine 60 mg -Tylenol w/ Codeine 300mg -Chlorpheniramine 4mg -Penicillin 500mg -Ibuprofen 200mg -Advil Liqui-gels 200mg -tylenol extra-strength 500mg -Dayquil liquicaps -Sudafed PE I wish I had Guafenpherin

Laurie B replied: "I am no doctor, only an LPN. It sounds like a sinus infection. Also, the fact that it correlates to college stress makes sense because your immune system goes down during stressful times. My advice from your list of meds is dayquil. For this evening as you try to study I would suggest airborne to boost your immune system, maybe some Vitamin C. If Sudafed helps you, perhaps that would give you some short-term relief. Good Luck with the cold and the class."

fuzzykitty replied: "Well you certainly have an arsenal of meds. More then enough to choke a horse, I suggest a couple of Advil's and maybe some hot tea. Not a med. person myself."

Derail replied: "Certainly sounds like a virus. May be too early to know if it's the flu, maybe a cold. The virus found a good home in you. The environment was perfect. A fever serves to change that environment in to one not so favorable, and to accelerate metabolism, which produces more white blood cells to combat the virus. But, it all takes time. You're gonna feel crappy. I'm being honest here and not condescending. The clinic probably won't be able to do anything. I know cause I've gone through the same situation in the past. With the test coming up, don't get too heavy on the meds. They can effect your mental comprehension skills."

Am i at risk of mouth cancer? I've had my lower left side wisdom tooth removed and 2 weeks has passed and im still having pain on that side. I've had antibiotics and ibuprofen for 7 days after the removal but until then,I am not fully recovered. There is a bit like a lump on my inside cheek and it sores a bit. Can somebody explain what is wrong.

Kite flyer replied: "If it has been 2 weeks and you are still having pain you NEED to contact the dentist / surgeon that took it out originally. SOON"

cbrdgt replied: "I don't think you are at risk for mouth cancer. It sounds like there's an infection or something going on...see the dentist."
